The first comprehensive collection of slang used by New Zealanders

Sidney Baker, Harry Orsman and David McGill have all produced wonderful collections of New Zealand-bred slang terms. I have taken a blanket approach, stuffing everything in regardless of its origins. If we currently speak it, write it, text it, tweet it, facebook it or blog it Ive attempted to record it here. However, when I could identify a word or phrase which probably has a kosher Kiwi heritage I have attached a (NZ) tag and, where appropriate, a potted explanation.

more than 32,000 entries
with a separate section relisting the 3650 entries with a Kiwi heritage
each entry identified with a part-of-speech label
all multiple-word entries are cross-referenced
full-sentence examples for over 1500 entries

Noel Kelly is a writer and former joint-owner of Books & Beyond bookshop. He spent fifteen years in the UK, on an extended OE, during which time he had a lot of fun comparing the slang of the mother country with the slang of his upbringing. Since his return to New Zealand he has been enthusiastically collecting the informal language we use today.
