Shaws unpleasant plays left people in displeasure. These plays directly attacked the audience, which was a major shock back then because aggression towards the audience was uncommon. His strategy was to make the audience uncomfortable, making them become conscious of what they do in their everyday life (Meisel 113-114). One method that Shaw used in his unpleasant plays was tricking the audience. He would force them to have an opinion of the characters. He made the audience confuse the heroes with the villains. The conflict in these plays is not right vs. wrong or if the villain is as just as the hero, but the question becomes who is the hero.
