Brancepeth was one of the largest sheep stations New Zealand has ever known peaking at 100,000 sheep spread over 31,000 acres. A splendid 32 room house was built complete with a battlemented tower. This massive house and the surrounding gardens and outbuildings are presented in full colour in this book.
Introduced by scholar Lydia Wevers it also includes a 10,000 word history of the Beetham family who settled this Wairarapa sheep station in the 1850s. Alex Hedley has photographed the house and its contents and many of the historic outbuildings to provide a snapshot of a grand colonial life.
