DI Nyree Bradshaw and her team have their work cut out for them once again. Local woman Lizzy Bean has been found dead, garrotted with a piece of wire. Lizzy’s property, a 1970s beach house overlooking a pristine Northland bay, is overflowing with rubbish. Inside, the house is even worse.
As Nyree and her team delve into the case, clues begin to reveal an intricate web of connections involving a local crime syndicate, a kidnapped woman, and a group of ex-foster children haunted by the past.
Meanwhile, Nyree’s own past is catching up with her. Forever racked by guilt that she has failed her son who is currently in prison for murder, Nyree might finally get a chance to redeem herself in his eyes . . . but it comes at a steep cost.
Hedley’s Books –
This is the second book in the Detective Inspector Nyree Bradshaw series but can be read as a stand-alone novel.
If you’re a fan of Hannah Richell, Fiona Sussman, Michael Bennett or the Australian crime genre collection, then you’ll love this too. Quality crime narrative that reaches deep to deliver well-developed, rounded, realistic characters from the Northland police units. Lizzy Bean’s body is discovered in amongst hoarder’s piles of rubbish within her home, but her death is one piece in the wider criminal web for DI Bradshaw and her team to unravel. With childhood links to state care and their vulnerabilities compromised, solving Lizzy’s case exposes deeper roots and the accusations extend to powerful places. The right balance of pace, tension and character cast makes this a perfect companion as the autumn chills start to creep in.
