Unveiling an outtake from the session that produced one of the most iconic album covers of all time, this previously unreleased group portrait was taken during the photo shoot for Pet Sounds at the San Diego Zoo on 10th February 1966.
The band’s changing attire and hairstyles, classic striped and plaid shirts and sleek haircuts swapped in favour of a looser fashion aesthetic, reflect their mid-sixties musical evolution. From surf-rock idols to trendsetters of the fresh and distinct California music scene, the Beach Boys’ transformation on the cover of Pet Sounds was immortalised by Capitol Records photographer George Jerman.
